Those of you who know me really well, know that I'm not very crafty...like, not at all. And I'm not feigning any sort of false modesty here, either. I've never been able to sew or paint -- outside of going through a crazy puffy painting phase in the late '80s, while trying my hand at an unsuccessful friendship-bracelet-making business...but I'm pretty sure these brief encounters with crafting don't count. And I should add I have a serious aversion to anything like scrapbooking or making memory quilts...yuck.
While I still maintain this minor character flaw, I am slowly trying to turn over a new leaf and venture out to learn some crafts. Earlier this year, my friend Shauna opened Jam an artisan's boutique that sells beautiful hand-made goods (jewelry, art, clothes, furniture), as well as having a full calendar of classes (everything from pilates to crafting to cooking).
And being the persistent little bugger Shauna is -- she always reaches out by inviting me to these classes -- I finally accepted and participated in the Dos Fannies jewelry-making class. And you know what? It was awe-to-the-some! Loved it! Not only was our teacher patient and kind, but I got to walk away with a necklace that I can wear proudly.
Check out the bling...
All of us hard at work.
Ricki's necklace.
Me, with my necklace.
